PennDOT District 6 announced that construction has been completed five months ahead of schedule on a $4.5 million project to replace the Worthington Mill Road bridge over Neshaminy Creek in Wrightstown and Northampton townships, Bucks County.
Completing the work early minimizes disruptions to travelers and complements Governor Shapiro’s commitment to transforming Pennsylvania government to more effectively serve Pennsylvanians by cutting through red tape and working as safely and efficiently as possible. It is that same spirit that was demonstrated in the effort to successfully open I-95 in just 12 days, and PennDOT’s team of expert engineers and work crews continue to work efficiently for people across Pennsylvania.
Under this contract, PennDOT’s contractor removed and replaced the 68-year-old, single-lane structure with a wider three-span composite prestressed concrete structure measuring 84 feet long and 32 feet wide. The new bridge will allow for two lanes of traffic to travel across the structure, compared to the previous one-lane crossing.
Worthington Mill Road bridge, which carries approximately 2,600 vehicles daily, was closed between Twining Road and Swamp Road in September 2021 after the roadway approaches sustained heavy deterioration due to flood waters caused by Hurricane Ida.
H&K Group, Inc., of Skippack, PA was the general contractor on this bridge replacement project, which was financed by 100 percent state funds.
