U.S. 1, Street Road Lane Closures Set To Complete Setup Of Two Long-Term Traffic Patterns For U.S. 1 Improvements Project

PennDOT District 6 says lane closures will be in place at night next week in each direction on U.S. 1 and Street Road (Route 132) in Bensalem Township, Bucks County to complete the setup of two long-term traffic patterns for northbound U.S. 1 reconstruction that will close the northbound U.S. 1 ramps to and from eastbound Street Road (Route 132).

Implementation of the new traffic patterns this week was delayed due to the weather. Weather permitting, crews expect to have the new patterns in place by late next week.

On Monday, February 18, through Friday, February 22, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, northbound and southbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to a single lane between Rockhill Road and Old Lincoln Highway, and Street Road (Route 132) will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way.

The lane restrictions on U.S. 1 will allow crews to complete installing and securing the temporary construction barrier and to make adjustments to the barriers once the new traffic pattern, which will move all U.S. 1 traffic to the west, is in place. The new pattern also will close the ramps to and from northbound U.S. 1 and eastbound Street Road (Route 132).

Nighttime restrictions on Street Road (Route 132) will allow crews to set up a temporary traffic pattern for reconstruction of the U.S. 1 overpass and complete construction of a temporary signalized intersection at the base of the westbound ramps. The temporary intersection will provide access to and from northbound U.S. 1 for eastbound Street Road (Route 132) traffic during construction on northbound U.S. 1.

Ramps to and from U.S. 1 and westbound Street Road (Route 132) also will be rebuilt and realigned during northbound U.S. 1 reconstruction but will remain open. In addition, turn lanes will be provided in both directions of U.S. 1 for access to properties within the work zone.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent. If any of the scheduled activities are cancelled, the planned lane restrictions also may be in place on both highways from 8:00 PM Saturday, February 23, to 6:00 AM Sunday, February 24.

The new traffic pattern will mark the start of northbound reconstruction on a $94 million project to widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of U.S. 1 from Old Lincoln Highway, at the Philadelphia border, to north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Bensalem Interchange.

This corridor improvement project is the first of three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.
