U.S. 1 Improvements Project Deemed Critical And Is Restarting

PennDOT District 6 says daytime and overnight lane restrictions will be in place the week of April 13 on U.S. 1, Street Road (Route 132) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bensalem Township, Bucks County for bridge, roadway, and utility construction under a project to widen and improve U.S.1 and reconstruct the interchange at Street Road (Route 132).

Normal highway and bridge construction projects in Pennsylvania remain paused as part of the commonwealth’s efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The U.S. 1 Improvements Project, however, is part of critical work that continues statewide addressing safety needs and work needed to eliminate roadway restrictions that could impede the ability for the movement of life sustaining goods and services.

The planned work schedule for the week of April 13 is as follows:

  • Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, westbound Street Road (Route 132) will be reduced to one lane between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way for water line installation.
  • Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17, from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on the eastbound Pennsylvania Turnpike at the U.S.1 overpass for overhead bridge construction.
  • Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike at the U.S.1 overpass for overhead bridge construction.
  • Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, periodic single lane closures will be in place on northbound or southbound U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway for roadway and bridge construction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.
