As part of the second phase of work related to the SEPTA-CSX Separation Project, over the next several weekends, SEPTA will be renewing the highway-rail grade crossings where the West Trenton Regional Rail Line crosses Edgewood Road, Stony Hill Road, Heacock Road and Township Line Road. When this work is completed, the crossings on SEPTA’s inbound and outbound tracks will be renewed, and SEPTA is pleased to be making these significant improvements for area residents who drive on these Bucks County roads.
Project Description:
SEPTA’s in-house forces will line and surface the track and replace the existing grade crossing surface on the middle track (SEPTA’s outbound track) to match the material and quality of the crossings on the new track that SEPTA installed last year. Work will include: removing the existing crossing surface, removing worn ties and tracks, installing new tracks, ballast, timbers and precast panels in the crossing area, and milling and paving either side of the outbound track. CSX owns the remaining outside track and is responsible for its maintenance – the crossings on that track are not part of this renewal project.
Road Closures/Detours:
Because this work will cannot be safely performed when trains and motor vehicles are passing through the highway-rail grade crossings, this project will require weekend road closures. Beginning this weekend and continuing for three of the following four weekends, SEPTA will be renewing the grade crossings on the following schedule:
- Edgewood Road
(Closed Friday, April 15 beginning at 7:00 pm until Monday, April 18 at 5:00 am)Edgewood Road will be closed at the grade crossing with traffic detoured between Heacock Road (eastbound) and Oxford Valley Road (westbound). Road closure signs will be placed on Edgewood Road in each direction, and directional signage will be placed along the detour routes. Local traffic for residences and businesses – to Sandy Run Road from the west and to Mill Road from the east – will remain open during construction. - Stony Hill Road
(Closed Friday, April 22 beginning at 7:00 pm until Monday, April 25 at 5:00 am)Stony Hill Road will be closed at the grade crossing with traffic detoured between Heacock Road (eastbound) and Oxford Valley Road (westbound). Road closure signs will be placed on Stony Hill Road in each direction, and directional signage will be placed along the detour routes. Local traffic for residences and businesses – to Judith Place/Hidden Pond Drive from the west – will remain open during construction. - Heacock Road
(Closed Friday, April 29 beginning at 7:00 pm until Monday, May 2 at 5:00 am)Heacock Road will be closed at the grade crossing with traffic detoured between Stony Hill Road (southbound) and Oxford Valley Road (northbound). Road closure signs will be placed on Heacock Road in each direction, and directional signage will be placed along the detour routes. Local traffic for residences and businesses – to Covington Road from the south – will remain open during construction. - Township Line Road
(Closed Friday, May 13 beginning at 7:00 pm until Monday, May 16 at 5:00 am)Township Line Road will be closed at the grade crossing with traffic detoured between Langhorne-Yardley Road (southbound) and Oxford Valley Road (northbound). Road closure signs will be placed on Township Line in each direction, and directional signage will be placed along the detour routes.
