Route 13 Improvement Project Update

Safer13.com recently posted an update for the Route 13 Improvement Project. The following is a summary of the current status of work in the various work zones along Route 13. All work is currently scheduled to finish no later than October 10, 2016 and the contractor is focusing efforts on completing work on the southern section of the project from Route 413 to Green Lane.

The Intersection at Routes 13 & 413
Beginning on Tuesday, July 19, the right lane of southbound Route 413 will be closed just before the intersection with Rt. 13 from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM to allow the contractor to widen Route 413 to the right. The left turn lane and the center lane will remain open and traffic will be able to make right turns onto southbound Route 13 from the center lane. This work will require approximately six weeks to complete. Once southbound Route 413 is widened the new pattern will allow two lanes to turn left onto northbound Route 13.

Route 13 from Route 413 to Bath Road
The new medians are installed along Route 13 and topsoil is being placed. A new sidewalk is being installed along southbound Route 13 and the contractor is reconstructing a section of the left lane of northbound Route 13 just north of the Route 413 intersection. This is the last section of pavement to be reconstructed in this area and once it’s finished the contractor will be able to place the final bituminous paving course and new line striping on this section of the project later this summer. One lane in each direction will be maintained at all times, but the paving and striping work will require the temporary shifting of traffic from the inside to the outside lanes as necessary to repave all lanes and shoulders in this area.

The Intersection at Route 13 & Bath Road
The contractor has finished paving Bath Road/Bath Street up to the intersection at Route 13. Bath Road traffic is limited to one lane in each direction as they reconstruct the center section of Route 13 at the Bath Road intersection. This work is expected to be completed in the next week.

Once all work is completed in the Bath Road Intersection, the final bituminous paving course will be placed later this summer along with new line striping. New traffic signals are being installed at the intersection of Route 13 and Bath Road. Once the intersection is complete, northbound Route 13 traffic will be able to make a left turn onto Bath Road. This will allow the contractor to remove the northbound jug-handle that runs behind the Golden Eagle Diner. The area will be regraded and covered with top soil and seed.

Route 13 from Bath Road to Green Lane
The full-depth pavement replacement has been completed in this area, except for the final bituminous wearing course. The existing concrete pavement on Route 13 on either side of Beaver Dam Road/Beaver Street has been rehabilitated. The contractor will place a bituminous paving course over the concrete and the final wearing course in the full-depth reconstruction area this summer. One lane in each direction will be maintained at all times, but the paving work will require the temporary shifting of traffic from the inside to the outside lanes as necessary to repave all lanes and shoulders in this area.

The Intersection at Route 13 & Beaver Dam Road/Beaver Street
Crews have completed the reconstruction of Beaver Street near Route 13. Next week, the contractor will reconstruct Beaver Dam Road next to Route 13. This work will be done using short term lane closures that limit Beaver Street and Beaver Dam Road to one lane in each direction through the intersection.
The Intersection at Route 13 & Green Lane
The full-depth reconstruction of this intersection has been completed, except for the final bituminous wearing course. New traffic signals and sidewalks are being installed in the intersection.
Route 13 from Green Lane to the Window Wizards Property
The full-depth pavement replacement has been completed in this area except for the final bituminous wearing course. Crews are currently installing the median curbs. The contractor will place the final wearing course in the full-depth reconstruction area this summer. One lane in each direction will be maintained at all times but the paving work will require the temporary shifting of traffic from the inside to the outside lanes as necessary to repave all lanes and shoulders in this area.
