PennDOT To Begin Project To Replace Upper Ridge Road Bridge In Milford Township

PennDOT News, Road Work Updates | April 30th, 2020

PennDOT District 6 says that construction is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 13, to replace the bridge carrying Upper Ridge Road over Unami Creek in Milford Township, Bucks County.

“Replacement of deteriorating structures is critical to upholding safety standards for our traveling public,” said District 6 Executive Kenneth M. McClain. “Ensuring a safe and reliable transportation network for all Pennsylvanians is our top priority.”

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, and relevant training.

Beginning Wednesday, May 13, through mid-December, Upper Ridge Road will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Trumbauersville Road and Nursery Road. During the closure, Upper Ridge Road motorists will be directed to use Trumbauersville Road, Broad Street, Allentown Road, and Finland Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

PennDOT’s contractor will replace the current 120-foot-long, 24-foot-wide bridge with a new two-span 151-foot-long, 36-foot-wide structure with two travel lanes. Two storm water pipes and outfalls will also be replaced to enhance storm water management.

Built in 1938, the Upper Road Bridge over Unami Creek carries an average of 3,476 vehicles a day. Work on the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
