PennDOT To Begin Project To Replace The Callowhill Road Bridge In Hilltown Township

PennDOT News, Road Work Updates | April 11th, 2024

PennDOT District 6 announced that construction will begin on Monday, April 15, on a project to replace the Callowhill Road bridge over branch of Pleasant Spring Creek in Hilltown Township, Bucks County.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will replace the existing two-span masonry arch bridge with a single-span prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge. In addition, the roadway will be widened from 18 feet to 23 feet. Other improvements include pavement reconstruction, guiderail installation, and new signage and pavement markings.

The 117-year-old structure, measuring 47-feet-long and 18-feet-wide, was closed September 2021 due to damage sustained from the remnants of Hurricane Ida. Prior to closing, the bridge was posted with a 34-ton weight limit and carried approximately 5,773 vehicles per day.

During construction, Callowhill Road motorists will continue to follow Route 113 (Main Street), Route 151 (Walnut Street), and South Perkasie Road as the posted detour. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. The closure will remain in place until the project completion in fall 2024.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
