PennDOT District 6 has announced that construction has been substantially completed approximately 19 months ahead of schedule on a $3.9 million safety improvement project to build two roundabouts at the intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road in Doylestown Township, Bucks County.
This project began in October 2023 to construct two adjacent single-lane roundabouts at the bifurcated intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road. The roundabouts include new drainage and sidewalks, ADA-compliant crossings, bicycle facilities, lighting, and full-depth pavement reconstruction.
The design included transit facilities that accommodate SEPTA and DART public transit routes. Existing trails to the east and west of the project are connected as part of this project. The trail connection circles the roundabouts connecting Triangle Park and the Heritage Gateway Center at Doylestown to adjacent residences and businesses.
The project was designed to enhance safety by decreasing overall crashes at the intersection, reducing vehicle speeds, and improving bicycle and pedestrian mobility and safety through the intersection.
Utility work on this project was expedited resulting in early completion, which surpassed the original completion date of April 2026. While major construction on this roundabout project has been completed, lighting installation, permanent sign installation, and landscaping will continue for several months.
