Halloween Pedestrian And Motorist Safety Tips

Highway Safety News, TMA News | October 25th, 2016

Halloween is almost here and whether you will be taking the kids door-to-door trick-or-treating or going to an adult party, TMA Bucks is reminding all of Bucks County to plan ahead and think safety. If you are walking on Halloween evening please remember the following safety tips:

  • Trick-or-treat in a group instead of by yourself so you are more visible
  • Carry a flashlight
  • Place reflective tape on your costume so drivers can see you
  • Walk on the sidewalk if one is available, or walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic
  • Never walk in between parked cars
  • Always cross the streets at a corner and look left, right, and left again
  • Obey traffic signals while crossing streets

Motorists that are driving on Halloween night should drive with caution and slow down! Be alert and watch for children walking on roads, medians and near curbs. Enter and exit driveways carefully and be on the lookout for children darting out from between parked vehicles and from behind shrubs and bushes.

Please remember Halloween is also a holiday where adults can celebrate as much as kids, but impairment begins with the first drink. Drivers may be distracted or impaired as they progress through neighborhoods. Buzzed driving is drunk driving, and police will be on the lookout for impaired drivers. If you plan on consuming alcohol at a party plan ahead and get a designated sober driver.
