Guest Reading For Air Quality At Southampton Free Library

TMA News | November 4th, 2025

We were guest readers recently at the Southampton Free Library where our project coordinator Ashley Sulon read the children’s book “Why is Coco Orange?” which is the story of a chameleon, but he can’t change colors, and his asthma is acting up. Coco and his friends at Lizard Lick Elementary solve this mystery as they learn about air quality and how to stay healthy when the air quality is bad.

Children also received coloring books and activity sheets that focus on keeping our air clean.

Children are at risk due to air pollution for several reasons according to the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. They spend more time outdoors, their lungs are still developing, and they breathe more air per pound of bodyweight than adults. Children not only have greater exposure to pollutants like ozone and particle pollution but those pollutants can exert greater impacts on developing lungs.
