Trail design is not always a “walk in the park.” Learn the basic requirements and best practices for trail planning and design, including ways to retrofit trails in constrained environments. This session will include an overview of key features for trail design, including widths, surfaces, accessibility, grades, and crossings. Additionally, participants will learn successful strategies for trail planning, such as evaluating alignments, identifying funding, and engaging the public. Learn dos and don’ts of trail planning and design through a review and discussion of local case studies.
