St. Mary Regional Trauma Center, TMA Bucks and the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education will officially kick off the CarFit program with a premiere CarFit event at St. Mary Medical Center’s Ambulance Garage on Thursday, May 5 from noon to 3:00 p.m.
Beginning this May, St. Mary will host CarFit events at three different locations monthly. There will be a CarFit event the first Thursday of each month at the St. Mary Ambulance Garage; the third Monday of each month at St. Mary Emergency Medical Services, 1221 Taylorsville Road, Washington Crossing, Pa.; and the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Our Lady of Fatima Outreach Center, 2915 Street Road, Bensalem, Pa. All events are 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and an appointment is required by calling the Trauma Center at 215-710-7078.
The CarFit program offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their vehicles fit them. A team of trained technicians work with each participant to ensure they fit their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety.
Drivers can improve their safety by ensuring their cars are properly adjusted for them. A proper fit can greatly increase not only the driver’s safety, but also the safety of others.
CarFit is a national program that was created by the American Society of Aging and is sponsored by the American Automobile Association (AAA), American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). The program is designed to “help older drivers find out how well they currently fit their personal vehicle, to highlight actions they can take to improve their fit, and to promote conversations about driver safety and community mobility,” according to its website.
A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. To schedule your free appointment, call 215-710-7078. For more information on the CarFit program, please visit www.car-fit.org.
