Students from several Bucks County high schools participated in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Teen Safe Driving ROADeo on May 2 at the Montgomery Township Community and Recreation Center.
The free event gave teens from all over the region more experience behind the wheel using educational and interactive demonstrations.
Our TMA Bucks Community Traffic Safety Program recruited students from all Bucks County high schools and the following were represented: Neshaminy, Central Bucks West, Pennsbury, Bucks County Technical High School, Central Bucks South, William Tennent, Pennridge, Morrisville, Council Rock South, Bristol Borough, Council Rock North, Central Bucks East, and Quakertown Community.
Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 16-to-24 year-olds. Key contributing factors in crashes involving teen drivers in Pennsylvania include driver distractions, driving too fast for conditions, improper or careless turning, and driver inexperience. The ROADeo promoted positive driving behaviors behind the wheel and on the road.
“We showed the teens what to do while driving and what not to do as a passenger through education, interaction, and fun,” said Carly Mannon, who manages the TMA Bucks Community Traffic Safety Program. “Students had the opportunity to rotate through multiple stations including a driving simulator, mock traffic stop by police, blind spot demonstration, vehicle service station, drunk and distracted driving information and take part in an interactive presentation.”
The Chester County Highway Safety Project, Delaware County Transportation Management Association, and Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services partnered with the TMA Bucks Community Traffic Safety Program on organizing the event.
