Pennsylvania’s Delaware Canal towpath is scheduled to be closed for 36 hours next week in the area where it crosses beneath I-95 near the Scudder Falls Bridge, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has announced.
The towpath closure is scheduled to begin about 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 11 and end approximately 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12.
The closure is needed to allow for tree cutting that will allow for eventual widening of the bridge that carries I-95 across the canal on the Pennsylvania approach to the Scudder Falls Bridge. The highway widening is one element of the multi-faceted Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project that is currently underway and is expected to continue until late 2021.
Bicyclists, pedestrians and other recreationists are urged to plan other routes or excursions during the towpath closure period.
(Note: A portion of the Delaware & Raritan Canal towpath on the New Jersey side of the Scudder Falls Bridge also will be closed to the public on October 11 to 31.)
