SUMMARY:Child Passenger Safety Week
DESCRIPTION:Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 12 years and younger. On average\, three children under the age of 14 were killed\, and an estimated 380 were injured every day in 2020. Continued efforts are needed to eliminate preventable car crash tragedies. Correctly installed car seats and booster seats are a critical component to keep children safe while traveling in the family vehicle. While many children travel in a car seat that may be appropriate for their age and size\, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 46% of car seats have not been installed correctly. The single most effective way to protect children\, and all vehicle occupants\, is to correctly buckle all occupants in a car seat\, booster seat\, or seat belt that is appropriate for their age and size. Join safety advocates across Pennsylvania in providing important information on keeping children safe during travel. \nOur Community Traffic Safety Program\, Pennsylvania Traffic Injury Prevention Project (TIPP) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) are committed to working closely with our partners and safety advocates to educate parents and caregivers during Child Passenger Safety Week.
