SUMMARY:Child Passenger Safety Week
DESCRIPTION:Every day across America\, parents and caregivers drive young children around town\, to and from school\, daycare\, and the store in car seats and boosters. Yet nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly\, which means your child may not be traveling as safely as possible. \nTo help keep children safe on our roads\, NHTSA is once again promoting Child Passenger Safety Week from September 19-25\, 2021. The goal is to make sure your child is in the correct car seat\, that it’s properly installed and used\, and that it’s registered with its manufacturer to ensure you receive important safety updates. \nCar seats and boosters are one of the easiest ways to keep your child safe and\, when installed correctly\, car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers. Unfortunately\, many parents install their child seats incorrectly. Among children under 5\, an estimated 325 lives were saved in 2017 alone because they were properly buckled\, but an additional 46 children could have been saved if every child was properly buckled. \nOur Community Traffic Safety Program is joining the Southeastern PA Safe Kids Coalition for a “Virtual Car Seat Event” on Monday\, September 20th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. \nFamilies wishing to have their car seat checked virtually via ZOOM\, or to ask a car seat manufacturer questions (Chicco)\, can follow this link to register: https://redcap.link/SK_SEPA_event
