U.S. 1, Street Road (Route 132) Lane Closures At Night For U.S. 1 Improvements Project

PennDOT District 6 says  lane closures will be in place at night the week of May 20 in each direction on U.S. 1 and Street Road (Route 132) for various construction activities on a project to reconstruct, widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of the highway in Bensalem Township, Bucks County.

On Monday, May 20, through Saturday, May 25, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, northbound and southbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to a single lane between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway, and Street Road (Route 132) will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way.

The work is part of a corridor improvement project and the first of three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.

U.S. 1 and Rockhill Drive also will be restricted next week for advance work on the second contract to reconstruct, widen and improve a 1.5-mile section of U.S. 1 from just south of the Rockhill Drive Interchange to just north of the Business U.S. 1 (Penndel) Interchange in Bensalem and Middletown townships. The work schedule is:

  • Sunday, May 19, through Thursday, May 23, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, lane closures will be in place on U.S. 1 in both directions between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Highland Avenue.
  • Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, right lane and shoulder closures will be in place on eastbound Rockhill Drive between Old Lincoln Highway and Neshaminy Boulevard.
  • Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, left lane and shoulder closures will be in place on the U.S. 1 ramp to eastbound Business U.S. 1.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.
