U.S. 1 North Lane Closure, Turnpike Ramp Closure Scheduled For Construction In Bensalem

PennDOT District 6 says northbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to a single lane and the northbound U.S. 1 ramps to and from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Plaza at the Bensalem Interchange will be closed and detoured from 6:00 PM Saturday, September 28 to 5:00 AM Monday, September 30 for construction of replacement ramps in Bensalem Township, Bucks County.

The weekend lane closure on U.S. 1 will extend from north of Old Lincoln Highway to the Neshaminy Exit. During the northbound lane closure, the ramps to and from northbound U.S. 1 and Street Road (Route 132) will remain open, but backups are expected to occur on the ramps at times due to the lane restriction on U.S. 1.

During the closure of the northbound U.S. 1 ramp to the Turnpike, northbound U.S. 1 motorists will be detoured to the Neshaminy Exit, turn left on Rockhill Drive, turn right on the ramp to southbound U.S. 1, then right on the ramp to the Turnpike Toll Plaza.

Turnpike motorists exiting at Bensalem and heading for northbound U.S. 1 will be detoured to the ramp to southbound U.S. 1, turn right onto the ramp to eastbound Street Road (Route 132), then left at the temporary traffic signal at the ramp to northbound U.S. 1.

The weekend restrictions will allow crews to complete construction of new, wider replacement ramps on the northbound side of U.S. 1. By Monday morning, September 30, the new replacement ramps will reopen just north of the existing ramps.

In addition, periodic lane restrictions will be in place on U.S.1 and Street Road (Route 132) in both directions on Sunday, September 29, through Friday, October 4, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for roadway and bridge construction activities. The work locations are:

  • U.S. 1 in both directions between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway
  • Street Road (Route 132) in both directions between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

The work is part of a corridor improvement project, and the first of three construction contracts, to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.
