PennDOT To Rehabilitate Route 113 (Souderton Road) Bridge In Hilltown Township

PennDOT News, Road Work Updates | December 4th, 2017

PennDOT says construction is scheduled to begin in early January to rehabilitate the structurally-deficient bridge carrying Route 113 (Souderton Road) over Mill Creek in Hilltown Township, Bucks County.

Beginning Tuesday, January 2, Route 113 (Souderton Road) will be closed and detoured between Bethlehem Pike and Keystone Drive.

Cars will be directed to use Diamond Street and Route 152 (Main Street/Bethlehem Pike). Trucks will be directed to use Bethlehem Pike and Route 152 (Park Avenue/Walnut Street). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Construction on the bridge is expected to be completed in April 2018.

Built in 1870, the single-span stone masonry arch bridge is 11 feet long and 25 feet wide, and carries an average of 10,673 vehicles a day.

PennDOT’s contractor will rehabilitate the structure by removing the existing fill material, including the wearing surface, and replacing it with lightweight concrete and a deck slab; installing new vertical wall barriers; repointing the masonry of the arch stones; and upgrading safety features.
