PennDOT has announced it has reopened the bridge carrying Rocky Ridge Road over a branch of Tohickon Creek in Richland Township as well as the bridge carrying State Road over a branch of Cooks Creek in Springfield Township, following a pair of successful bridge replacement projects in Bucks County.
On Rocky Ridge Road, PennDOT’s contractor constructed a single-span box culvert as well as upgraded all safety features, including installation of new guide rail. In addition, the bridge was widened to accommodate two travel lanes. The new structure is 17 feet long and 25 feet wide.
The new culvert replaces the single-span steel I-beam structure which was built in 1927. That structure was 19 feet long and 16 feet wide, and carried an average of 119 vehicles a day.
On State Road, PennDOT’s contractor replaced the existing bridge with a concrete rigid frame system as well as upgraded all safety features. The new structure is 13 feet long and 29 feet wide.
The new bridge replaces the one-span reinforced concrete slab bridge, which was built in 1912. It was 13 feet long and 26 feet wide, and carried an average of 1,463 vehicles a day.
