The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that it has named Edward J. Kunkle as the new state maintenance manager in Bucks County.

“Ed is a valued member of our maintenance organization in the Philadelphia region,” PennDOT Assistant District Executive for Maintenance John Krafczyk said. “We are confident that his many years of field and managerial experience will help him successfully direct state maintenance operations in Bucks County.”

Kunkle, who served most recently as PennDOT’s acting county maintenance manager in Bucks County, will supervise a staff of 121 employees who are responsible for maintaining 965 miles of state highway and 660 state-owned bridges in Bucks County.

Kunkle will manage the county’s $36.3 million annual maintenance budget and direct numerous transportation maintenance functions including the development of the annual paving program, winter maintenance operations, pavement patching and incident response.

Prior to working as acting county maintenance manager in Bucks County, Kunkle served for seven years as an Assistant Highway Manager for the county. Kunkle began his career with the Department of Transportation in 2000 as a Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee.
