Overnight Exit Ramp Closures, Detours To Start At I-95/Route 29 Interchange Near Scudder Falls Bridge

I-95/I-295 News, Road Work Updates | February 7th, 2018

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced that some travel lanes and ramps in the complex I-95/Route 29 interchange (Exit 1) are scheduled to be shut down and detoured during overnight periods beginning Thursday, February 8.

The scheduled ramp and roadway closures and corresponding detours are needed to allow for placement of steel bridge-deck beams for the upstream span of the Scudder Falls Replacement Bridge.

Weather permitting, the travel restrictions at the interchange are expected to be in effect 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (next morning) two nights this week (Feb. 8-9) and five nights next week (Feb. 12-16). The following traffic movements at the interchange will be affected:

  • Route 29 southbound traffic through the interchange
  • Route 29 northbound traffic onto I-95 southbound
  • I-95 southbound traffic seeking to access Route 29 southbound
  • I-95 northbound traffic from Pennsylvania seeking to access Route 29 northbound

Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations if they plan to utilize any of the above-listed travel movements on upcoming nights when construction cranes are used to lift steel bridge beams into place on the new bridge’s recently completed abutment and piers in the vicinity of the I-95/Route 29 interchange.

The aforementioned scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and equipment/materials mobilization considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and to reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
